Reflection 8

Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel

This week in Tehnology we worked in very familar  territory for me. We looked at Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. I have been using Microsoft Word for a while now. I used it to type end of year exams. I also use it to type lesson plans, class assignments and projects. It is also useful for preparing charts and concept maps which can be posted on the classroom walls to reinforce a concept.

Spreadsheets on the other hand is very useful for preparing report cards. It provides formulas which calculates students averages in each subject area. It can also arrange students grades from smallest to largest and the teacher is able to decide on who is his top students in the class. The teacher can also incorporate Excel to teach lessons.

My Experience with Blogging

After much diligence and patience my blog was finally created and yes I was very excited. I now had a blog and I planned to make full use of it. I began by inviting my classmates to view my blog. I realised I was able to write reflections on my blog  and also comment on my classmates reflections. I learned how to edit, delete and add pictures to my blog. I also learned how to communicate with other classmates by sending them a message.I also learned how to customize my blog by adding a background of my choice and also changing the font colour and size. Most of all I realised that although blogging is a new experience it is also a happy experience. Happy Blogging.

MOVIE MAKER & ASSURE MODEL

The exploration continued this week in Technology with Windows Movie Maker and the Assure Model Lesson Plan. In order to effectively use technology in the class we should be able to integrate the learner, the content and the technology used. What is the Assure Model?

1.       A procedural guide for planning and delivering instructions to integrate technology and media into the teaching process.
2.       A systematic approach to writing lessons plans
3.       A plan used to help teachers organize instructional procedures.
4.       A plan used to do an authentic assessment of student learning.

It is divided into six parts.

1.       Analyse Learners
2.       Objectives
3.       Select methods, media and materials.
4.       Utilize media, materials and methods.
5.       Require learners participation
6.       Evaluate and revise

Our teacher Mrs. Marsh-Roberts gave us an opportunity to explain the Assure Model Lesson Plan when we were asked to prepare a lesson plan on our own.

Reflection 6

PODCASTING

This week in Technology we discussed Podcasting. It is the creation and distribution of amateur radio on the web. This is a very effective tool which can be used in the classroom by the teacher for instructional purposes. It can also be used to create jingles and poem. Students can also use Podcasting when preparing presentations, advertisements or even songs.
